In 2010 we hope to come up with more in the way of fundraising. We will be
looking to have a few quiz nights, psychic nights and maybe race nights. If
anyone would like to organise a fundraiser then please feel free. We really do
need all the help we can get. 2009 saw the branch erect 2 new pens, one being a
double pen. This has brought our total number of outdoor pens to 7. We
hope to erect at least 1 more in the very near future. If you would like to
sponsor a pen then please see details on the website. If you are looking to get involved with the branch as a volunteer then please do not hesitate to call us or email us. To everyone who has sent this branch Christmas greetings and donations we would like to say a big thank you from the Cats and the Volunteers. Without your support we could not exist to help the hundreds of cats we deal with in the space of 1 year.
If you don't have a cat then get one. What are you waiting for?
From all the Cats and Volunteer at Lanarkshire Branch, best wishes for 2010.

APPEAL - October 2009 - support our fundraising events
Handsome boy Abraham has recently had to have surgery which has cost the branch £936. Abraham required to have a urethrotomy as his tube where the urine passes through was completely blocked. This was caused by crystals in his bladder that could not pass through the tube.
The surgery is very serious and thankfully Abraham pulled through and is now on a special urinary diet.
During the same month Primrose came into our care with thickened mammary tissue. Tests confirmed that Primrose had mammary tumours and therefore needed both mammary strips removed. This is like a double mastectomy in a human. Primrose is such a sweet cat that we decided to give her a chance. She is young and deserved a second chance.
Primrose's operation cost the branch £1,052.
Youngster Travis was homed by the branch and came back into care because the couple had a new baby. On return to care Travis's foster mum noticed his heart was beating very fast. He was taken to the vet and referred to a cardiologist where it was confirmed that he has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Travis is a very lively happy boy. He has been put on medication and requires to be seen by the cardiologist in a few months again.
Travis's referral cost the branch £500 excluding his ongoing medication and further referrals. He probably wont reach the age of 2 years but for now he is happy and has a good quality of life.
At the moment one of our fosterers is nursing tiny Wallace our little braveheart. Wallace was found lying on a driveway in the torrential rain. He was too weak to fight against it and just lay down. He was rescued and brought into Cats Protection care where it was discovered he had something very wrong with his abdomen. He initially couldn't walk without staggering. He was x -rayed by the vet and he was found to have a massive hernia. Wallace's intestines are outside the abdominal wall and are lying just under the flesh. He is very vulnerable and must be watched carefully. He has gone from strength to strength and has grown a lot since he came into care. He has his own cage so that he can be rested. Whenever he is 12 weeks he will undergo an operation to put his intestines back and close up his abdomen.
Obviously this will once again cost the branch quite a bit of money. In order that we can pay for all of these operations and the more minor ones that are required for cats that come into care we need your help. The branch is not asking that you send in money as we are all too aware of how the current recession is affecting everyone.
What we are asking is that you join us in our fundraising endevours. We have a booksale in Motherwell on Saturday 10th October followed by a Psychic Night on 23rd October and then our first Homing Show on 14th November.
Please support the branch and the cats in our care by coming along and enjoying our events.
If you are interested in doing a fundraiser on behalf of the branch then please contact us on 0845 3714 213. Our cats need you.
