Re-Homing Success Stories
updated October 2009

Hi to everyone at Cats Protection Lanarkshire. I thought I would update you on the 2 fabulous wee boys we homed from you.
Garth and Gabriel (as they were) are now called Sparky and Domino, and have turned into the most handsome good natured wee chaps we could have hoped to re-home.
Needless to say they ruled the roost from the moment they came to us and we all love them to bits. They have just started using the cat flap and spend their time jumping in and out of the kitchen and chasing the leaves in the garden. I fear it won’t be long before there will be some 4-legged or feathered presents for us in the mornings!!!
Roslyn from Strathaven.

A wee update about Hank, he is now called Scruff and is 1 year old now. He is getting a big cheeky cat and loves to play with his brother.

He is the sweetest natured cat in the world he loves nothing more than to get cuddled up to sleep on the bottom of our bed.

Scruff loves to play chases with his older brother they get on so well - I'm so glad to have him so thank you very much :-)

Emma, from Coatbridge

Connie has been living with us since December 2008 and has been an absolute delight. She is great company and has settled in well. We decided to keep her name as it suited her and she was answering to it.
Connie has such a loving and affectionate nature, I am so glad that we were so fortunate to find her and can't believe that she was being adopted literally two minutes around the corner.
Connie is quite a vocal cat and always lets us know when she wants food or wishes to go out and explore.

She loves to pounce on leaves that blow in the wind in the garden and also loves to lie on our dining room table and soak up the morning sun through the patio doors and sleeps on our cushions like lady muck! :-)
Thank you for the great work you do and for finding Connie for us. She has now found her forever home and we couldn't imagine not having her in our life!

Leroy - miracles can happen
Leroy as he was named by Lanarkshire Branch came into our care in November 2008. He was found straying in Blantyre by a girl who although allergic to cats was concerned for him and started feeding him. The girl and her sister agreed that the cat appeared to be pregnant and called the branch to see if we could help. The cat was uplifted and taken to the vet for a check only to discover that the pregnant female was in fact a big neutered boy.
We called him Leroy and he went to foster mum Anne Marie. It was obvious that Leroy had been well looked after as he was very loving and liked attention. He wasn't upset by other cats either. Just the other day a home visit was arranged for Wednesday the 7th January in the hope that a successful home visit would result in Leroy having a new home. Today 6th January we received a call from a lady who had noticed Leroy on our website and thought he looked very like the cat she had lost in August.
Her cat Charlie had gone missing after the family moved to a new home. The family lived in Coatbridge and moved to a new home still within the Coatbridge area. When the call was received from the lady thinking Leroy was her cat Charlie, we explained that he had come in from Blantyre which is miles away from Coatbridge and certainly not within roaming distance. However the lady described Charlie right down to the very slight chip in his tooth and the random white hairs through his black coat. The description matched Leroy to a tee. It was thought that it would be better if the lady went to see Leroy.
She did so, and on setting eyes on Leroy she immediately identified him to be her missing cat Charlie. She was overcome with emotion and couldn't wait to get him home to her children who by now would be in bed as it was late. Charlie apparently loved sleeping on the bottom of the boys beds, and so when 3 little children wake up tomorrow morning they are going to think Santa has made their Christmas wish come true albeit a couple of weeks late!
Miracles do happen when you believe.

Here is a wee update on Fudge (formerly Helena).. in her own cat words!

I came here to stay at the beginning of October 2008, I was kitten of the Month on the Cats Protection website, but to my folks, I am AT LEAST cat of the year!

I moved in on the Friday and by the Sunday…
well I owned the place!

My favourite game with them is hide and seek - there are so many hiding places where I stay now… its great fun, watching the folks looking for socks, jewellery, mobile phones etc … though, I have so many toys of my own, but its much more fun watching them running around, and I do follow them, trying to tell them whether they are ‘hot or cold’ hehehee
My favourite drinking spot is the kitchen sink. I need to be sitting in the sink with the water bouncing off my head before I will drink it (its more fun that way) and when I am done, can leave lovely little footprints all over the kitchen floor!

My mum says I am her wee angel, my dad says I am a nutcase - one of my uncles says I have issues – YEAH – my folks aren’t learning quickly enough, but they are getting there.

Did you see what they did to me this Christmas though? (see photo)
And to humiliate me even more, they stuck it to a Christmas card and sent it to the WHOLE family! Watch this space though, I will get my revenge hehehee.
Would like to thank all the people at the Cats Protection. They found me this great place to live, was so lucky to have met them, hopefully other cats are as lucky as me.

Here's an update in May 2008 of how Amos has been getting on since coming to live with me in the summer of 2007 from Cats Protection Lanarkshire.
Amos is a really talkative chap and he loves company....so much so that for the first month he was determined to come and talk to me at about 4.30am!!
Amos is my first feline friend so I was quite nervous at first about letting him out and about....I was worried that he would get lost or wouldn't come back! I needn't have worried - he never ventures very far and thankfully isn't interested in hunting particularly - phew!
I am so glad that Amos has come to live with me....he does provide lots of entertainment...for myself and others when I'm telling them stories. I would say that classic one so far has been Amos climbing out of my bedroom window and getting stuck on my roof....the vision of me up a ladder in my pink pyjamas and 'ugg boots' at midnight trying to coax him down has caused great amusement with my friends.
Below are some pics of Amos chilling out (his favourite past-time!)

Hello again Cats Protection Lanarkshire!
My name is Ollie
Just sending you a few pic's - see below - hope you like them taken in February 2008.
Staying with a couple of nutter humans and got them running around after me!   Their place is bang on - great big garden to home my skills in - not caught any mice or birds yet will get there.
Signing off for now will keep in touch, Ollie.

I thought I would send you a little update on Kiara.
I picked Kiara up from cats Protection Lanarkshire in December 2007.  She is a very loving cat but spent the first few days hiding under the bed.  Now she never wants to be away from us or the kids and has fitted into this mad house perfectly.  She loves to chase her toys and the kids always happy to oblige.  Thank you to the charity for the joy of this cat

Ashley from Kilsyth

I just wanted to give you an update on Monty.

Monty had his jaw rewired prior to entering cats protection, and had been re-homed to a temporary foster home for six months before we took him on. We've been looking after him since November 2006.

Over the last couple of days, we noticed that his chin was irritated, and it looked like some of the wire in his jaw had came through his chin. Taylor vets in Cathkin agreed that the wire had came through, and booked him in for an operation to have a closer look at it.
Monty came thru the op no problem.

Keep up the good work you do
Kind Regards
Gerry McClafferty

Ester was homed by Sara McMullen from Coatbridge in 2007.

Sarah said "When I collected my cat I decided to keep its foster care name of Ester as I thought it was a nice name, and never heard of a cat called Ester before!"

Ester is mainly an indoor cat, but likes nothing better than going outside to a safe garden for a wander most afternoons. After an hour though, its back to cuddling up indoors.

"I love Ester and the company she gives me. She is still young and dippy and is your stereotypical curious cat. I am considering a 2nd cat, but will give Ester another few months of being centre of attention and to let her build her confidence.

Sarah added: "I wouldn't change Ester for the world, and thank you to Cats Protection Lanarkshire.

Hi there. When I was adopted in September 2006 by my two owners from Edinburgh I was called Mitzi. My new family thought I looked more like a Macy, so named me that instead. I have to agree the name is a better fit for a stylish puss like myself.

I came from East Kilbride from a volunteer for Cats Protection, and I settled into my new surroundings quite quickly. But it wasn’t until my owners went away on holiday at the start of this year I really started to feel at home. When they put me in a cattery for a few days I thought they had left me and I was going to have to look for new people to take care of me again. However, the fact they came back and got me made me realise that they’re my forever parents and will always look after me.

Since then I’ve been a real lap cat – I just love clambering onto their laps to get fuss. (I quite often time my demands for lap to coincide with them eating their dinner, reading the paper or playing on the computer!) We also have lovely conversations with each other in the morning when they’re fixing my breakfast and changing my litter tray – I’ve become quite the vocal cat and love twittering away to them.

I’m mostly an indoor cat these days. My owners let me outside for a run around in our enclosed back garden, but there a lot of other cats in the area. They’re all really nice to me and just want to play, but I can’t really be bothered with other cats and show them my fangs to warn them off. My owners always make sure they’re with me when I’m outside, just to make sure things don’t get too scary!

I had a wee health scare recently. They found a tumour on me, so I had to go and have an operation last week. Luckly, it was benign and I’m totally fine. I’m left with a shaved bit for the time being but I think it looks kind of cool!

Basically, I’m a very happy and contented puss, and want to thank Lanarkshire Cats for finding me a home where I am loved and wanted.

Macy, x.

Hope all is well with everyone at Lanarkshire Cats protection.
Best wishes for 2008 ,
James McLuckie, Edinburgh

A black and white tom called Edgar that we picked
up from Bellshill in March at around ten months old. He'd been found in Shotts and was needing a home.
EdgarYou'll be glad to know he's loving his new place (perhaps a touch more than
Tommy, his housemate cat...) and has settled in very comfortably.
Now a giant

(longer and taller than Tommy who is no midget), he has made friends with
all the neighbours and is happiest when he's outside chasing anything he can
reasonably hope to catch.
We've enclosed a photo that makes him look far less mischievous
than he really is!
Cheers
Calum & Alison, Blantyre

Jackal the cat's extraordinary journey
Jackal photo- As featured on STV's Scotland Today News

Jackal was found cowering inside a car engine when a car broke down on the way home from Livingston.

The frightened feline had to be cut out of the car by Lanarkshire firefighters when it became trapped next to the radiator.

Then Cats Protection Lanarkshire appealed for the owner of the cat - which has been named Jackal by Strathclyde Fire Brigade - to come forward.

The cat travelled 30 miles from Livingston Shopping Centre to Hamilton in Lanarkshire before being discovered, and Lanarkshire Branch co-ordinator Maria told STV Scotland Today viewers that Jackal was lucky to be alive.

Despite extensive media coverage, the owners never did come forward, so Jackal was re-homed in the Spring to a wonderful family and settled into the new surroundings quickly.
