2005 Chinese New Year Celebrations in Liverpool The City of Liverpool is one of the most well known cities in the world. It has rich traditions in arts and culture: excellent architectural buildings, vibrant multi-culture and some of the oldest ethnic communities in the UK. As a result, the City of Liverpool was awarded '2008 European Capital of Culture'.In the year of 2000, building engineers from Shanghai came to erect the largest archway outside China to commemorate the twining of the two cities - Liverpool and Shanghai. It has become one of Liverpool's tourist attractions. The archway is a symbol of unity and a catalyst of inward investment. It also helps to promote business, cultural and academic exchange of two cities.
