Leonard Armitage

Born: Sheffield, England - 20th October 1899. Died: Sheffield, England - Spring of 1972
This is Leonard Armitage, the Grandson of Thomas Armitage. Like his brother Tom, Len was a talented soccer player. He played for Sheffield Boys and won a ESFA Shield medal. In 1914 he also turned out for Sheffield Forge and Rolling Mills, Walkley Amateurs and Wadsley Bridge before joining Sheffield Wednesday. Len then transferred to Leeds United in June 1920 where on his debut he scored Leeds United's first goal in the football league. In 1923 he left for Wigan Borough but had the best part of his career with Stoke, winning a Division Three North medal in 1926-27. Following a tour in South Africa with the FA in 1929 he then signed for Rhyl in 1931 and then a year later he signed for Port Vale.
