![]() John Hanna, executed on Kennington Common, September 14th 1739 for perjury and robbery. It is recorded that "after his death his body was given over to the surgeons". The gallows was near to where Oval tube station now stands. Executions were held there until 1799 and subsequently St. Mark's Church was built on the site. The picture is an engraving by G.
