Brunswick House, at the corner of Wandsworth Road and Nine Elms Lane, was originally named Belmont House. The building was constructed in the 1750s, and was owned by John Dawson.
Is this the same John Dawson who was a Liverpool slave trader? Many large town houses of this type and period were built from the profits of slave trading or slave plantations.
For many years the building was a social centre for railway workers. It has recently been sold and the owners' plans for the building are not known.
