Charles Ledger, of Stockwell. Charles went to South America seeking money-making ventures. He planned to become rich by transporting alpaca to Australia and breeding them there. Once this failed he set out to steal seeds from the chinchona tree, whose bark can be used to make quinine. He died in poverty in Sydney. The photo was taken around 1880.
