Tips for beginners
Most of these will work if you are using a standard personal computer, using the most popular software. (Send us your ideas - we want more good, basic tips to add to this list.)

Use Help
Get to know the 'Help' option on your PC or software. You may be able to find the solution to your problem there.

Back
If you get lost, use 'Back' on your browser to return to where you were. In Internet Explorer you can also use ALT + <-- .

Keyboard with arrow pointing to Esc keyIn trouble? Hit Escape!
The Escape key usually interrupts what the computer is doing, and can get you out of trouble.

Unwanted Windows
If new windows keep opening up that you don't want, use CTRL + W to remove them, or click on the 'X' in the top right hand corner, or click on "File/Exit".

Text size
In Internet Explorer you can use 'View/Text size' to change the type size (although this won't work for some web sites).

Find your way around this site
Navigate using the buttons at the left, or the links placed at the bottom of each page. Click on About to find the Site Map.

Accessibility
If you would prefer not to use the mouse, there may be an alternative. In Windows you can go to 'My Computer/Control Panel/Accessibility Options/Mouse' to set up Mousekeys. You may need to install 'Accessibility Options' from the Windows CD. This allows you to use the arrow keys at the right hand side of the keyboard to move the pointer. Also search on 'Help' for 'keyboard shortcuts'.

Now click on BACK to return to the Home page.
