May 2002
Saturday 4th
Visited Aldershot Car Parts (breakers) and relieved an old Sierra of its rear
caliper brackets (£5 each). If you're still searching for your Locost, there was also a Cortina
complete with front hubs and uprights still intact...
No other progress this week as I was on holiday in Cornwall.
Wednesday 8th
No Loconinja progress, but today we visited The Eden Project near St. Austell. You really must
check this out, it is awesome.
Saturday 11th
Wire brushed the rear caliper brackets and painted with black smooth Hammerite
(why don't they call it Smoothrite anymore?)
Saturday 18th
Not much this weekend as we are preparing the house for our new baby (due July!)
The Stuart Taylor rear hubs provide mounting for the calipers at the front of the hub,
unlike Westfield which is at the rear of the hub. This led me to conclude that the calipers should be fitted the opposite way to a Westfield
in order for the bleed nipple to be at the top. I checked this with another Loconinja builder (thanks Ben Marriott!). However, this means that
there does not appear to be much room between the caliper handbrake cable mount and the lower wishbone.
Just need to source a handbrake lever and cable now. The cable needs to come from a Sierra to fit the calipers, but the lever could probably
come from anything. Time to visit the scrappers again!
