Adams - John ….. born 30th October 1735 died 1826 ….. FIRST Vice-President of the U.S.A from 1789 to 1797 and from 1797 to 1801 was its second President. In 1785 he became the FIRST U.S Ambassador to London. He was also the FIRST U.S President to establish and review the U.S Marine Band, the country's oldest professional musical organization

Adams -John Quincy ….. born 11th July 1767 ….. 6th U.S President and the FIRST to follow his father into the presidency – John Adams ( see above). He was the FIRST president to be photographed, FIRST to be married abroad and the FIRST to marry a woman outside the U.S. He gave the FIRST presidential interview to a woman - Anne Royall, journalist

Bush - George W ..... FIRST U.S President to attend a European summit - 2005 and in May 2005 became the FIRST U.S President to attend a parade in Red Square, Moscow. In 2008 he became the FIRST U.S President ever to attend an Olympics on foreign soil when he flew to Beijing in China

Cleveland - Stephen Grover..... born 1837 died 24th June 1908 ..... 22nd and 24th President of the U.S.A who was the FIRST Democratic president elected after the Civil War and the only one to serve two non-consecutive terms. He was the FIRST to be married in the White House and the FIRST to be filmed. The occasion was the inaugural parade of Will McKinley

Clinton - Bill ..... 42nd U.S President and the FIRST one born after WW2. In 2000 he became the FIRST US President to visit Vietnam since 1975. In 1994 he became the FIRST American President to address a joint session of the Jordanian Parliament and later before the Israeli Knesset in Jerusalem

Coolidge - Calvin ..... born July 4th 1872 died 5th January 1933 ..... 30th President and the FIRST  President to speak on a cinema screen when filmed delivering a campaign speech on the lawn of the White House in 1924

Grant - Ulysses S ….. born 27th April 1822 died 23rd July 1885 ….. 18th President of the USA and the FIRST President to have his salary taxed. Normally the annual salary of $25,000 was untaxed but during his second term his salary was doubled and the change was made

Harding - Warren G ….. born November 2nd 1865  died 1923 ….. 29th President of the U.S.A in 1920 and with his wife Florence was the FIRST presidential couple to die during a presidential administration

Harrison - Benjamin ….. born August 20th 1833 died 1901 ….. 23rd President of the U.S.A who called the FIRST Pan-American conference which led to the establishment of the Pan American Union, to improve inter-American co-operation and develop commercial ties. In 1948 this became the Organisation of American States

Harrison - William Henry ….. born 1773 died April 14th 1841 ..... 9th U.S. President and the FIRST chief executive to die in office (after only 31 days)

Hoover - Herbert Clark ..... born August 10th 1874 died October 20th 1964 ….. 31st President of the U.S.A , the FIRST self-made millionaire elected as president and the FIRST born west of the Mississippi

Jackson - Andrew .. born March 15th 1767 died 8th June 1845 ….. 7th U.S President and the FIRST to enter office from a background of abject poverty. He was also the victim of the FIRST assassination attempt on a president. He was  the FIRST governor of Florida after it had been purchased, but soon resigned. He was also the FIRST sitting president to ride a train when he took the Baltimore and Ohio in Maryland from Elliott's Mills to Baltimore on June 6th 1833

Jefferson - Thomas …..  born 1743 ..... 3rd U.S President and the FIRST to use the handshake as a means of greeting for dignitaries and other guests

Johnson - Andrew ….. born 29th December 1808 died July 31st 1875 ….. 17th U.S. President and the FIRST American president never to have attended school. He was also the FIRST to be impeached by the House and tried by the Senate for misconduct. He was acquitted by a single vote

Johnson - Lyndon Baines ….. born 27th August 1908 died January 22nd 1973 ….. FIRST U.S President whose permanent residence was in a state that recognised a wife as 50% owner of a couple's entire community property. He was also the FIRST Southern President since Andrew Johnson

Kennedy - John Fitzgerald ….. born 29th May 1917 died November 22nd 1963 ….. 35th President of the U.S.A and the FIRST Catholic President and the youngest when elected in 1960,  FIRST of Irish descent, FIRST one to be born in the 20th century and the only one ever to win a Pulitzer Prize

Roosevelt - Franklin Delano ….. born 1882 died 12th April 1945 ….. 32nd President of the U.S.A and the FIRST to appoint women to high government posts. He was also the FIRST president to be televised when he officially opened the New York World's Fair in 1939

Roosevelt -Theodore ….. born 1858 died 1919 ….. 26th President of the USA and the FIRST cowboy President of America who created the FIRST National Park in America - Yellowstone. He was born in New York and studied at Harvard. In his twenties he worked as a cowboy on a ranch in the Dakota territory after going west in order to get over the grief of losing both his wife and his mother on the same day. He was also the FIRST American President to ride in an automobile, a plane and a submarine and was the FIRST American to win a Nobel Peace Prize which was for mediating the treaty that ended the Russo-Japanese War. He was also the FIRST President to sit down to dinner with an African-American at the White House when the black intellectual Booker T Washington was his guest

Taft - William Howard ….. born 1857 died 8th March 1930 ….. 27th President of the USA and the FIRST to : play golf – toss the ball to open the baseball season – to keep a car at the executive mansion- to be laid to rest at Arlington National cemetery. In 1901 he was the FIRST civil governor of the Philippine islands

Taylor - Zachary ….. born 1784 died 9th July 1850 ….. 12th U.S. President and the FIRST to state publicly that he despised politics

Truman - Harry S ..... born 8th May 1884 died 26th December 1972 ….. the 33rd President of the USA and the FIRST to authorise the use of atomic weapons in warfare when Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed. In 1947 he gave the FIRST televised State of the Union address and delivered the FIRST address by a president to the NAACP when he spoke from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and called for immediate civil rights for all citizens on June 29th of the same year. In 1951 he became the FIRST American President to be limited to two terms of office following the 22nd Amendment to the U.S Constitution.

Tyler - John .. born 29th March 1790 died 18th January 1862 ….. 10th US President and the FIRST American vice-president to succeed to office on the death of a president when W W Harrison died in 1841. He was also the FIRST president to remarry whilst in office and the FIRST to face a serious threat of impeachment

Washington - George ..... born February 22nd 1732  died 1799 ..... the FIRST President of America

Wilson - Thomas Woodrow ..... born 1856 died 3rd February 1924 ….. 28th President of the USA and the FIRST to visit Europe whilst in office and the only one to be buried in a vault at the Washington National Cathedral
