1848 ….. U.K ..... early copies of the FIRST Christmas issue of the Illustrated London News were distributed.  Material included a Christmas lyric called Under The Holly Bow, pictures of 'Grandpa's Christmas Hamper' and 'Making the Christmas Pudding' 

1911 ..... FRANCE ..... the FIRST flying school in France reserved for women was opened by Jane Herveau but sadly failed due to lack of students ( from Dave Lam)

1938 ..... the FIRST coelacanth to be identified ( it was believed to have become extinct 50,000,000 years ago) was caught in the Bay of Chalumna, off South Africa 

1964 ..... U.K ..... the Lockheed SR-71, the world’s fastest jet plane, made its FIRST flight 

1965 ..... U.K .....the 70 mph speed limit was FIRST introduced on the motorways of Britain. It was brought on after a series of crashes in fog and the restriction applied to 350 miles of motorway and all unrestricted roads for a trial period of four months. Despite opposition it was repeatedly extended
