1963 ..... SPACE ..... Syncom 2 became the FIRST artificial satellite to go into a geosynchronous orbit i.e. an orbit that is matched to the Earth’s rotation so that it stays directly above one location on the Earth’s surface 

1995 ..... U.K .....  the FIRST ever Variety Club Telethon was held. The 6 hours extravaganza on Sky TV was hosted by Chris Tarrant and Anna Walker 

1998 ….. U.K ..... Manchester Registry Office opened for the FIRST time on a Sunday to allow several couples to marry on St. Valentine's Day
