1862 ..... CANADA ..... the FIRST Canadian Lumberjack’s Union was founded 

1882 ..... U.K ..... Oliver Vaughton and Arthur Brown became the FIRST English players to score hat-tricks in a full soccer international  when England beat Ireland 13-0 

1911 ..... INDIA ..... the FIRST official airmail delivery was made when 6,000 letters were flown 5 miles from Allahabad to Naini Junction in India by Henri Picquet 

1921 ..... FRANCE ..... Etienne Oehmichen, a French engineer, made the FIRST helicopter flight 

1930 ..... Elm Farm Ollie made history when she became the FIRST cow to be flown in a plane. A group of reporters went with her on the flight to St Louis and whilst on board she was milked. The milk was sealed in paper containers and dropped from the plane attached to minute parachutes. It was not reported where the milk bombs landed 

1949 ..... U.K ..... Opportunity Knocks was presented for the FIRST time by it's creator, Hughie Greene. On this first-ever show was Jean Bayless, Archie Biggs, Louise Traill, Bill Martin and guest star-spotter Sheila Sim. Famous winners include Frankie Vaughan - 1949

1996 ..... U.K ..... Judi Dench became the FIRST actress to win the Laurence Olivier Awards for best actress in a Musical ( A Little Light Music) and also best actress ( Absolute Hell)

2002 ..... U.K ..... Juliette Hulme became the Army's FIRST female Chaplain when made an Army Captain
