1897 .... the FIRST wedding at which the bridal couple left in a motor car took place in Paris. In Britain the FIRST motor car wedding took place at St. Augustine’s R.C Church in Solihul on the 21st April 

1915 ..... the FIRST American combatant died in WW1. Edward Mandell Stone was an American who lived in Paris and had enlisted in the Foreign Legion. The French posthumously awarded him the Croix de Guerre

1935 ….. U.S.A ..... It Happened One Night starring Claudette Colbert ( who won the Oscar for Best Actress). It was the FIRST and only time in the history of the awards that the official ballot was ignored and voters could write in with any name they wished and it was the FIRST picture to win all the major Academy Awards

1941 ..... U.K ..... Tommy Handley was the FIRST star guest on the radio series Quiet Please which was scripted by Harry Alan Towers, who later became famous in commercial television ..... and ..... U.S.A ..... for the FIRST time the results of the winners of the Academy Awards were kept absolutely secret from the press, public and nominees alike as sealed envelopes concealed the names of the final winners until the very last moment
