1875 ..... U.S.A ..... Sam Reilly of New York City introduced the FIRST tattooing machine 

1924 ..... U.K ..... Helena Normanton became the FIRST woman accepted by the Inns of Court when she entered the Middle Temple. She was the second woman (after Dr Ivy Williams) to be called to the Bar in England, one of the FIRST women to be made a Kings Counsel in England (1949) and the FIRST woman to be elected to the General Council of the Bar 

1940 ..... U.S.A ..... Walt Disney’s second full length cartoon, Pinocchio, was shown for the FIRST time. It had taken 2 years to make at a cost of £300,000 and more than 450,000 drawings and paintings had been embellished with 2000 subtle shades of colour 

1964 ..... U.S.A ..... the Beatles made their FIRST visit to America 

1974 ..... U.K ..... Jenny Bazeley became the FIRST woman to referee a football match between men when she took charge of the game between Croydon Old Boys and Saints Athletic. Her fee was the customary £2.00 

1976 ….. U.K ..... Diane Thorne was the FIRST woman jockey to win under National Hunt rules - riding Ben Ruler  

1993 .....  Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Dr Michael Stroud completed the FIRST unaided crossing of Antarctica on foot
