1863 ..... U.K ..... Prime Minister Gladstone opened the FIRST section of the London Underground. It was between Paddington and Farringdon Street and on this opening day 30,000 passengers made the 33 minute journey

1929 ..... U.K ..... the cartoon character TinTin appeared for the FIRST time 

1946 ..... U.K ..... the FIRST meeting of the UN General Assembly took place in London 

1985 ..... U.K ..... the FIRST electric runabout, the Sinclair C5 was unveiled by its creator, Sir Clive Sinclair. It cost £399, had a top speed of 15 mph and included in the price was a battery charger and a safe driving book from the RSPA. By October of the same year however, after many months of problems, two receivers were called in to sort out the company’s affairs and production ceased 

2000 ….. U.K ..... Oldham became the FIRST town in Britain to take centre stage in the Millennium Dome when Oldham Theatre performed " Our Town Story"
