1915 ..... U.K ..... the FIRST air-raid casualties in Britain were recorded when the German L3 Zeppelin dropped 6 bombs and a number of incendiaries over the Yarmouth area. Three civilians were injured and two were killed - Miss Martha Taylor and Samuel Smith 

1966 ..... INDIA ..... Indira Gandhi became the FIRST woman Prime Minister of India when the Indian National Congress leader Shastri died. She served for 11 years but in 1977 was defeated by the Janata party. However she remained one of the most powerful personalities in Indian politics until her death by assassination in 1984
