1552 .....  U.K ..... the FIRST game of cricket observing the basic rules of the game was played at Sevenoaks in Kent 

1869 ..... FRANCE ..... the FIRST margarine was patented in France by Hippolyte Mege-Mouries of Paris after he had been commissioned by Napoleon 111 to find an alternative to butter  ‘ for  the navy and less prosperous classes’. After starving his cows for several weeks he came to the conclusion that fat came from reserves in an animal’s body. His ‘margarine’ was made from suet, macerated cow’s udder, pig’s stomach and bicarbonate of soda and iced water .The word ‘margarine’ came from the Greek word for pearls - margarites 

1932 ..... U.S.A ..... the FIRST Disney colour cartoon and the FIRST cartoon made in a 3 colour process - Flowers and Trees - was premiered at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre 

1933 .....  FIRST aerogramme devised by the Iraq Director of Posts was registered at Stationers Hall in London and was issued for postal use by the Iraq Post Office on this day

1965 ..... SPACE ..... the FIRST close-up pictures of Mars were sent back by Mariner 4

2007 ….. NORTH POLE ..... Lewis Pugh became the FIRST man to swim at the North Pole when he spent almost 19 minutes at minus 1.8C as he front crawled for a full kilometre, more than l/2 a mile in the coldest water a human has ever swum in
