1897 ..... U.S.A ..... Alexander Winton began the FIRST American reliability run driving from Cleveland to New York

1920 ..... U.K ..... the FIRST women jurors were six ladies drawn from the middle-classes to make up one half of a jury at Bristol Quarter Sessions. The Prosecuting Counsel, R E Dummett was therefore probably the FIRST person to use the words "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury" in an English court

1966 ..... U.K ..... Florence Nagle, aged 70, won a 20 year fight to be the FIRST woman in Britain to be granted a licence to train racehorses 

1986 ..... U.K ..... Laura Davies became the FIRST Englishwoman to win golf’s US Women’s Open
