1938 ..... Jenny Kammersgaad from Denmark, was the FIRST person to swim the Baltic - 37 miles in 40 hrs 9 mins 

1949 ..... U.K ..... the FIRST televised weather forecasts were introduced by the BBC

1953 ..... U.K ..... “ An episode in the life story of David Alexander Bliss” was FIRST heard on radio. Film star David Tomlinson was the star of the show at the beginning but seven weeks later George Cole took over and made the role his own. Many other changes in the cast followed but nobody seemed to mind and the show ran until March 1969.  Stars included Nora Swinburne, Esmond Knight, Phyllis Calvert, Diana Churchill, Colin Gordon, Moira Lister, Lana Morris and Petula Clark

1970 ..... U.K ..... St Ann's Square was the FIRST conservation area designated by Manchester City Council ( UK)
