She was accompanied by a Monsieur Fleurant and they ascended to 8,500 ft watched by Gustav 111, King of Sweden. The balloon was named in his honour

1913 ..... U.K ..... Emily Davidson was the FIRST suffragette to die for the cause when she flung herself beneath the King's horse, Anmer, at Derby. She died in hospital on June 8th

1999 ….. U.K ..... it was revealed in the Manchester Evening News that a man who had all his fingers severed in a horrific accident at work had become the FIRST person to have all his fingers re-attached. Two teams of doctors along with nurses and theatre technicians performed the delicate micro-surgical procedure in a marathon 18-hour operation at Withington Hospital
