1801 ….. U.K ..... Britain's FIRST national census was carried out

….. U.S.A ..... "Come here, Mr Watson , I want you" were the FIRST intelligible words
to be spoken into a telephone when Alexander Graham Bell spoke to his assistant
Thomas Watson. He was in the next room to Bell at 5 Exeter Place, Boston,
Massachusetts. Mr Watson could not reply as the telephone only worked one way
1886 ….. U.K ..... the FIRST Crufts Dog Show was held at the Old
Royal Aquarium, London. Entries were limited to terriers. The show was the idea
of Charles Cruft who believed that encouraging the breeding of pedigree dogs
would lead to an increase in the sale of dog food of which he was a sales
representative working for Spratt's
1910 ….. U.S.A ..... the FIRST Hollywood film to be released was D W.Griffith's In Old California which told the story of a Spanish girl's
affair with a future governor of California
1956 ….. U.S.A ..... High Tor, the FIRST full-length
made-for-television movie was networked coast to coast in America. It starred
Bing Crosby and featured Julie Andrews in her American screen debut
