1908 ….. U.K ..... Britain’s FIRST diesel submarine was launched
1929 ..... U.S.A ..... FIRST Hollywood Oscars were presented at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel Banquet and Janet Gaynor was the FIRST woman to receive one. The male recipients were Emil Jannings, a German actor, directors Frank Borzage and Lewis Milestone and the writer Ben Hecht. At these first awards only all nominees who did not win were given Honorable Mention Awards

1963 ….. SPACE ..... the FIRST man to make two orbital flights of the earth was the US astronaut Leroy Gordon Cooper. His first on May 15th and 16th circled the Earth 22 times in the last of the one-man Mercury project series. In August 1965 he flew with Charles Conrad on the Gemini 5 mission, making a total of 120 evolutions of the Earth
1975 ….. Junko Tabei became the FIRST woman to climb Mt Everest when she reached the top with a male sherpa
