It was a 4 minute boxing film and was presented by Major Woodville Latham of the Lamda Company , the FIRST film company in the world to be established as such ..... and ..... UK ..... the FIRST woman to qualify as a dental surgeon in Britain was Lilian Murray ( later Lindsay)

 

1899 ..... U.S.A ..... the FIRST car driver in America to be arrested for speeding was New York City cabman Jacob German who was booked for driving his taxi at 12 mph

 

 

1913 ..... U.K ..... the FIRST Chelsea Flower Show opened in the grounds of the Royal Hospital, London and for the FIRST time the Chelsea Bun went on sale. As the crowds of keen gardeners arrived the band of the Royal Artillery played Wagner’s Entry of the Gods into Valhalla

 

1915 ..... AUSTRALIA ..... Australia's FIRST VC winner of World War 1 was Albert Jacka

 

1927..... U.S.A ..... the FIRST solo non-stop transatlantic flight across the Atlantic was made by the American Charles Lindbergh, who flew from New York to Paris in an aircraft called Spirit of St Louis which was named after the city where it was made. He landed on May 21st after a flight of 3314 hours which gained him world-wide fame and a prize of $25,000. The prize money had been promised by Raymond Orteig to the first person to make the non-stop flight from New York to Paris

 

1939 ..... U.K ..... the regular transatlantic air service FIRST began when a Pan American Airways flying boat, the Yankee Clipper, took off from Port Washington, New York, bound for Europe

 

1941..... GREECE ..... Crete was attacked by German paratroopers, the FIRST wholly airborne invasion of a country

 

1942 ..... U.S.A .....  the U.S. Navy signed up its FIRST black recruits

 

1995 ….. U.K ..... the Manchester Race Awards were awarded for the FIRST time and the FIRST recipients were NHS nurse Louise DaCodia and Mohammad Abdus Salom who was the man behind special training for 9,000 police officers, teachers, nurses and social workers

 

1996 ….. U.K ..... Levenshulme High School for Girls was named as Manchester's FIRST specialist languages school. It taught French, German, Spanish and Urdu and had plans to introduce Mandarin Chinese. The Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank put in cash for the extra funding which was needed by the school over the next 2 years
