1926 ….. U.K ..... Britain’s FIRST General Strike was in support of the miners. It ended on May 12th

 

1933 ….. U.S.A ..... Nellie Taylor Ross was appointed the FIRST female director of the U.S Mint

 

1952 ….. U.K ..... Newcastle United became the FIRST team since 1891 to win 2 English FA Cup Finals in succession  

 

1956 ….. U.K ..... Granada TV broadcast for the FIRST time at 7.30 pm with the announcement “From the North, this is Granada, on Channel 9. Tonight the North has a new television service, created by the devotion and hard work of thousands of northerners”.  Viewers saw television advertising for the FIRST time and four days later Granada did the FIRST sports outside broadcast. The following month their FIRST networked show Spot The Tune was seen
