The trade unions weren't happy about women training as engineers so she was called a 'Technical Trainee' and worked her way through the Inspection Department instead of the workshop.  Two or three years later another girl, Dorothy McRitter joined the company and was designated an apprentice from the start. She appeared as the 'first girl apprentice at Vickers Armstrong' on the television show Six Five Special. After Christine's apprenticeship ended she became a Wind Tunnel Engineer and remained with the company for almost 40 years after it became British Aircraft Corporation and the British Aerospace.
