..... FIRST Jewish girl to have a Bat Mitzvah. She was the daughter of Rabbi Mordecai Kaplan, founder of the Jewish Reconstructionist Movement, who performed her Bat Mitzvah in New York in 1922. She was also a musicologist, teacher and author of books about Jewish music and composed several cantatas with her husband, Rabbi Ira Eisenstein. She was 86 years old when she died

Her first published piece concerning women's education was "Desultory Thoughts Upon A Degree of Self-Complacency Especially in Female Bosoms" and it was published in 1784. In it she agreed with the ideas of Mary Wollstonecraft about education for women and also argued that all women should be equipped to make their own living
