..... on July 5th 1948 she became the FIRST baby to be born on the NHS in Britain when she came into the world at the then Park Hospital in Davyhulme in Manchester.  She weighed in at 6st 7lb and had been born with two front teeth which had to be taken out with tweezers as they were loose.  In 1998 on the 50th anniversary of the NHS Julie and her parents returned from Canada to pay a birthday visit to the hospital, now called Trafford General

Julie was the FIRST woman UXB expert in the Territorial Army with a Brighton-based squadron of the newly formed 101 (London) Engineer Regiment. During peacetime the girls would not be called upon to work on "live" bombs but would almost certainly be used in wartime

..... Sergeant in the British army who became the FIRST woman to be selected for an aviation display team when she joined the Blue Eagles, the Army's equivalent of the RAF's Red Arrows, in 2005. In February 1988 Julie joined the Queen Alexandra Royal Army Nursing Corps as a student nurse and served as a Combat Medical Technician during the Gulf War. In 1996 she wanted to do something different and so in 1997 qualified as an Army pilot and served in Germany and Northern Ireland. Her father Alan (who brought Julie's achievement to my attention) had originally led the Blue Eagles team between 1979 and 1984 and is now a civilian flying instructor for the Army Air Corps
