Through her husband she took an interest in the Delegate Board and on his death put herself up for election. She retired at the age of 70

..... one of the FIRST eight women pilots selected by the Air Transport Auxiliary in 1940 to 'ferry' the light type of trainer aircraft from factory to aerodrome ( see Pauline Gower) and FIRST woman Master of Foxhounds in the 236-year history of the Essex Union Hunt. She was one of the band of early women aviators and gained her pilot's licence in 1930 and seven years later bought her first aircraft. By the time she joined the ATA she had 900 flying hours to her credit and by the end of the war had flown most of the 130 types of aircraft ferried by the ATA. She was aged 80 when she eventually gave up flying
