1783 ..... FRANCE .....  the FIRST men carried aloft in a free flight by a balloon were Francois Pilatre de Rozier and the Marquis d’ Arlandes in a Montgolfier hot-air balloon. They rose 500’ above Paris and after 25 minutes landed a few miles south on the Butte-aux-Cailles

1994 ..... U.K .....  Princess Anne left England for a 7 day tour of South Africa and Mozambique - the FIRST official visit to South Africa by a member of the Royal Family for 50 years
