1975 ..... the FIRST underwater pipe-line to bring North Sea oil ashore was opened by Queen Elizabeth 11. It ran 110 miles along the seabed from BP’s Forties Field and then 127 miles underground to the Grangemouth refinery on the Firth of Forth. It was hoped that the pipeline would eventually produce 400,000 barrels per day
