..... Ordsall Hall - the first house was put up on the site when fallow deer roamed the tranquil meadows. Most of the current building dates from the beginning of the 16th century including the Tudor Great Hall. For over 300 years the Radclyffe family lived at the house and legend has it that the house, which was then a stronghold of the Roman Catholic faith in Lancashire, was the location for Guy Fawkes and Robert Catesby to plot the overthrow of King James
