Thomas Berry ..... born in 1859 he was an
officer in the Salford Police Force for eight years. In 1890 he went to Western
Canada and in 1901 went into the real estate business in Winnipeg. In 1912 he
became the FIRST English-speaking Mayor in the French city of St Boniface near
Winnipeg, Manitoba

V Godfrey-
Major ..... OBE MA ..... died 1946. For
38 years he was Chief Constable of Salford and was recognised everywhere for his
pioneering safety methods and road safety schemes
R Howard ..... the youngest man ever to have
held the rank of Superintendent in the English police force when appointed in
1932, in 1947 he was appointed by the Salford Watch Committee to succeed to the
post of Chief Constable on the death of Major Godfrey, making him the first
Salford man to hold the office

Jones ..... pioneering police officer who
paved the way in tracking internet paedophiles and made the first-ever arrest of
an offender later convicted of downloading and distributing indecent child
images. In 2004 he was honoured by Greater Manchester Police Force with a
lifetime achievement award after 33 years. His unit was responsible for the
development of software to identify suspects who use chat rooms to share abusive
information, the identification of 48 offenders and the development of links
with agencies around the world. Under his leadership the unit focused on
internet paedophiles which eventually resulted in the prosecution of several
hundred people world wide. He retired in 2003 but still acts as an independent
consultant for police and children's charities

J M Yates K.C..... FIRST Recorder of
Salford appointed in 1889 when Salford was constituted a county borough. In 1904
he was elected chairman of the Salford Hundred Quarter Sessions and Alfred
Aspinall Tobin K.C filled the vacancy he had left as Recorder
