1912 ..... Lt Moizo of the Italian air crew was the FIRST pilot to be captured in warfare. He had been the FIRST to arrive in Tripoli and had made more sorties than any other member of the Aviation Corps

1915 ..... the FIRST British Women’s Institute was founded in the Welsh town of  Llanfair....gogogoch. Its aim was to encourage self-help, education and support to all women  and in particular those in rural areas. Adelaide Hoodless, a farmer’s wife, founded the FIRST W.I in the world in Stoney Creek, America at the end of the last century. During its existence the W.I’s achievements have included the abolishment of turnstiles in women’s public toilets and a ban on the use of flick knives 

1928 ..... the world’s FIRST television play was transmitted live by Station WGY in New York 

1950 ..... the FIRST woman to swim the English Channel - England to France - was the American swimmer, Florence Chadwick whose time of 13 hours 20 mins was the fastest 

1996 ..... the FIRST British strategy for global environment research was announced. It was the result of collaboration between research councils, Government departments and executive agencies

2001 ..... the 97-year old Salford Lads Club (England) opened its doors to the public for the FIRST time as part of a Heritage Open Day
