The Elvis story is a rags to riches tale - literally!
Elvis Aaron was born to parents Gladys Love and Vernon Elvis in the
poor town of Tupelo Mississippi in the US of A on 8th January 1935. He
was a twin but the first was stillborn.
They had to really struggle to make ends meet and Vernon was often
unemployed or in prison for forgery.
After he graduated from high school went into the Memphis Recording
Service with his guitar to make a record for his mum as a gift. The receptionist
there liked the sound of him and made a tape of him & took note of
his phone number to give her boss Sam Phillips.
Elvis decides to pay the studio's another visit & meets Sam. They
decide to get a band together and make some demo's. At first Elvis is nervous
and is not doing too well, but whilst on a break Elvis starts singing "That's
Alright Mama" & the band join in. Sam likes what he hears and records
it.
From then on history is made, Elvis & the boy's play countless gigs & make TV appearences, but eventually is filmed from the waist up after singing "Hound Dog" in 1956,where viewers thought him too lewd!!
In his 22 year career he made 33 films and had 21 British number 1's, lost his mother, got called up to do service for the army, was married and had a daughter.
He sadly passed away on 16th August 1977. The official cause of death was given as cardiac arrhythmia or irregular heartbeat.
