The Grand Prix series which started in 1990, is now into its 3rd evolution, with Grand Prix 3. Geoff Craymond, who is responsible for the programming of the game, has been refining the Grand Prix series ever since its first realise as Grand Prix in 1990 on the Amiga.

This latest offering, gives you the full 1998 season, tracks, cars, drivers & physics. The graphics have been vastly improved from previous versions, especially the textures on objects. The physics of the game are vastly improved, and the visual effects when running the game on a decent spec machine are a visual treat. The game caters for all levels of experience, from the absolute novice, with options like automatic braking and traction control, to the Grand Prix veteran. Whether you are a keen simulation fan, or just want a quick race this game has everything you need.

Graphically this game is very demanding on hardware. The minimum specified computer to run gp3 will be barely adequate, I would recommend that you use at least a Pentium II 400, with 64mb of RAM, which is what the machine used to test the game was. Even this as well as having a 8mb 3D graphics card is acceptable at a resolution of 640*480. The game will run well on a 400mhz machine, but to get the full potential you will need a very highly specified machine to run all the graphical details, to their potential.

For the more experienced driver the game is great fun to use, with traction control and automatic gears turned off. The game is fairly exciting and can get hairy in places for the hardened simulation fan.

The game is however not without its flaws, though you are not likely to see them anywhere but on the replays. When you are replaying and the car when in the cockpit appears to be on the edge of the curb, from the outside in the TV style replay, looks to be in the gravel trap, or on the grass, detracting from the almost flawless detail of the rest of the game.
