As a medium with over thirty years experience, I think I am well qualified to speak about the following traps into which many aspiring and well known mediums fall. Here they are in no order of importance:
- EGO - at all costs avoid becoming trapped by your own ego. Many times I have worked alongside and seen mediums who believe their own publicity and are so wrapped up in their own importance. Remember, you are nothing without the spirit world helpers who work with you.
- OVER EAGERNESS - mediums never stop developing, but over eagerness, particularly in the early stages of development can has longer term negative effects. Do not be too eager to step onto the platform before you are ready. Slow is best. Cultivate patience and develop your abilities properly.
- OVER USE OF ABILITIES - do not over use your gifts. Some mediums are like ever open doors and go around giving messages at the drop of a hat. Use your psychic abilities with caution and only open up at the appropriate time and place. Over use will result is exhaustion and can impair your ability to work mediumistically.
- GUIDE WORSHIP - never worship your own or anyones spirit guide. Respect them, but recognise that they are not saints. They have much to learn also, but are drawn to you to impart guidance and wisdom, not to be placed upon pedestals.
- MISINTERPRETING WHAT YOU GET - this is a common error and one which afflicts every medium from time to time. But care should be taken to avoid adding your own interpretation to a spirit world message. Experience will tell you when and how to interpret symbols and your guides will work with you in this way.
- DELUDING YOURSELF - I have seen many mediums deluding themselves and others, not always deliberately, often through ignorance. Be true to yourself and to what you are given from the spirit world and never build your part to be something that you are not.
- CARING FOR YOUR BODY - I have worked with many well known mediums over the years, and so many of them are heavy smokers! We all have our weaknesses and faults, myself included, yet would we not better serve the spirit world by making ourselves the best vessels that we can? To eat, drink and behave sensibly and in moderation must be the aim of every medium.
- JEALOUSY AND ENVY - you would not think that one medium could be jealous of another would you? Yet how wrong you would be! Avoid being envious of another or their work. Each has their role to play and not one is more important than another.
- NEGLECT - an obvious one really, but many mediums, having reached the level of working publicly think they are developed and no longer need to sit in circles or meditate at home. Development is ongoing and every medium should strive to improve their abilities
- OPEN MINDEDNESS - just as mediumistic development is ongoing, so is spiritual learning. I have known some individuals who know it all or are closed to alternative information such as that included on this website. Cultivate an attitude of open mindedness and new understanding will come to you.
