Hi everyone,
I thought that this page might be of interest to all of you seeking to develop your mediumship and I hope to be able to offer one or two tips to aspiring mediums out there. With the publication of our latest White Feather book In the presence of White Feather which Amanda and I have worked very hard on over the last couple of years, it seems to me that there is a growing interest in Trance Mediumship, which is exactly why we featured a whole chapter on how it might be developed. There are many misconceptions regarding what is or is not trance and some spiritualist churches even shy away from allowing trance mediums to demonstrate. I can understand why, because there are examples of what I call pseudo trance out there, with some individuals fooling themselves and some more gullible members of the public with demonstrations that leave much to be desired. True trance mediumship at its best can reach out to people in ways which even the best clairvoyant messages cannot. Whenever White Feather speaks, the whole energy of the hall changes. His ability with words, his love and his mere presence touches people from all walks of life. He unites young and old, rich and poor, ignorant and knowledgeable in one embrace. So what are the criteria that mark good trance mediumship? I believe they are:
1) The ability to communicate in ways normally beyond that of the medium during normal conscious states. 2) The use of words and phrases not usually associated with the instrument. 3) The flow of the communication - effortless and without hesitation. 4) The quality of the knowledge and truth imparted (and evidence also if the medium is used in this way) 5) The expression of humility and lack of egotism 6) The lack of posturing or over-emphasis of mannerisms associated with the supposed culture of the controlling spirit
Whenever one sees the above traits exhibited by a trance medium, one can be generally assured that the communication is genuine and not the result of an over active imagination. If for example, an entranced medium should suddenly announce the arrival of a red Indian spirit guide with a raised arm and the proclamation HOW! - one should recognise that this is extremely unlikely to be true trance and more likely to be a product of the mediums own subconscious mind. A degree of common sense is necessary here and provided that the hallmarks of genuine trance communication as listed above are in evidence, then it highly probable that the medium IS being controlled by a spirit person and that true spirit communication is taking place. We detail a great deal more in the latest book about how to develop mediumship with tips on how best to approach the subject and illustrations showing how a spirit guide may link with a medium. We never stop developing and learning and every sitting or demonstration is an experiment. May I wish you all the very best in your endeavours. Please feel free to email me with any problems or queries you may have regarding your own development. I will do my best to answer them! Robert

In my time as a platform medium I have been praised, criticised, chastised, put upon a pedestal, ignored, overlooked, thanked, lied about, misquoted, thought highly of, recommended and been misunderstood. I have been promised the earth, told that I will work here there and everywhere, informed I have this guide and that guide with me, worked at the highest level with great mediums like Gordon Higginson, Albert Best, Doris Collins, Coral Polge, Mary Duffy, Ursula Roberts and others. Yet through all of these experiences I have tried to remain humble and true to myself. Everyone has an opinion of what I am or am not and this applies to all who have the courage to work publicly as an instrument of those in other dimensions. I seek no praise or thanks for what I do other than knowing that I have in some small way, helped another in need. If I have achieved this than I am more than satisfied. If I have pleased those in spirit who use me then I am indeed fortunate and grateful for the opportunity.
