Who is Maria Dixon?

 

Maria Dixon is a shipping professional with over eighteen years' experience in the field.

She is 41 years old, British, but originally her family comes from Spain and Venezuela. In 1980 she was appointed to the Shipping Department of the Consulate of Panama in London.

Since then, she worked her way up to the maximum rank of a non-diplomatic civil servant could obtain, Head of Shipping in one of the most successful Consulates the Republic of Panama had abroad.

Maria Dixon left her job at the Consulate on March 31st, 1998.

On June 2nd, 1998 she became a director of the British company called ISM Shipping Solutions Ltd.

 

What is Maria Dixon’s Professional background?

 

While working for the country of the largest merchant marine fleet, her name became synonymous of experience and knowledge in the maritime field worldwide.

Maria’s presence made her a figure that gave continuity to the registry she worked for. Even during the darkest moments Panama went through and during the decline and exodus of the ships from the Panamanian Registry, Maria handled the department she headed, with professionalism and dedication.

In addition to the duties that a Registrar has, Maria Dixon also helped to solve many cases and worked together with the major law firms in the city of London and abroad, owners, agents, banks, H M Custom & Excise, Port State authorities, P & I Clubs, notaries public, and fraud squads.

Maria's expertise helped to devise and implement systems that still are benefiting the Panamanian Registry enormously.

With her resources, knowledge and networks she always finds a satisfactory solution or alternative to most shipping problem.

During the years, innumerable situations have arisen where Maria Dixon's expertise has helped the insurance companies and the investigation branch of the authority to clarify situations, otherwise impossible to solve by them. Details and knowledge of the working environment has helped major investigators and lawyers to solve problems and court cases were fraud was intended. Without Maria Dixon's help, the cases would never been resolved satisfactorily, and have lead to conviction and court awards in some cases.

 

Enterprises and Cases solved

Since she left her last job, she has not stopped working at all.

The shipping business is a very active field and since she left she has :

  • Become an independent and freelance Shipping Consultant.

  • Helped a Panamanian registered ship to obtain a sailing permit on a non-working day.

  • Advice executives of a Scandinavian Bank and a Japanese Financial House to prepare for the ISM era.

  • Assisted to register two new Panamanian Ships.

  • Assisted a Solicitor on an incident onboard a cruise ship.

  • Took a Lead Auditor Course on ISM/ISO 9000, and at present she is doing her statutory practices in order to become an official certificated IRCA auditor.

  • She has helped various clients and fleets of tankers to obtain the CLC1969 Certificates.

  • And her work with WISTA has not been stopped at all.
