Project Description: 3 storey 5 bedroom detached house, gross area 3,300ft2, site area 1¼ acres.
Building Specification
Foundations: Reinforced concrete raft foundation.
Main Structure: Masonite l-beam studs, joists and rafters at 600mm centres filled with Warmcell recycled newspaper insulation.
External Cladding: Walls - Blue lias natural stone salvaged from site and locally sourced Western Red Cedar weather boarding. Roof - Reclaimed double roman clay tiles.
Windows: High performance timber frames with low E argon filled double glazing units.
Ventilation: Mechanical heat recovery ventilation system.
Space/Water Heating: Wood burning stove heats ground floor. Oil fired Stanley cooker heats 1st and 2nd floor radiators and hot water in winter. flat plate solar collectors heat hot water in summer.
Water Supply: Filtered recycled rainwater and borehole.
Electricity Supply: Wind turbine and PV solar panels with generator back-up charge battery bank. Invertor converts 24v to 240v supply.
Ecological Benefits: Where possible reclaimed or locally sourced sustainable materials have been used.
