Birds are the stick insects main predators the ones that hide among the grasses, leaves and branches of the forest trees. Most of the birds hunt during the daytime so the stick insects need good camouflage to protect themselves during the daytime. The bodies of stick insects are good because their slender bodies and thin legs make them look like twigs and also their colour is good because most stick insects are green or brown so they blend in with the trees and branches. If the stick insect is disturbed it will fall to the ground like a dead twig. If this does not work the stick insect will fly away to escape. When the stick insect folds its wings back in its colour on its wings disappears make it hard to see again.
