Food and feeding
Stick insects are vegetarians. They eat the leaves of
herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees. They knaw the leaves with
their small but effective teeth. Each species has its own
preferred plants to eat. Stick insects feed at night when birds
are not around. Even when it is dark the stick insect is not safe,
so the stick insect move slowly and quietly when feeding to avoid
any sudden movements that might give away his presence. Most
stick insects hunt by themselves but some hunt in swarms which
can strip trees bare. Some stick insects eat privot but most
prefer bramble.
