Rainbows

The day of 19/07/02 had been particularly miserable with heavy drizzle all day.  Just before sunset the clouds started to clear from the West allowing the sun to produce the above.  To the right, there is a second much more diffuse 'bow

Crepuscular Rays

Just before the thunderstorm of 18/08/02, Todmorden was treated to a fine display of crepuscular rays, as seen below

Iridescent Clouds

Caused by sunlight refracting through ice crystals in high clouds, produces a similar effect to rainbows. taken 17/08/02  15:40

Sunsets

Although not strictly a phenomenon, sunsets can provide some dramatic photographs, as the surrounding four images demonstrate.
