I
was born in 1961 in West Ewell, Surrey. I was given my first proper
camera when I was 17 and photography has gradually developed from a
keen interest into something approaching an obsession. After three years
at the University of Bristol studying economics, I moved to Norwich
in 1982, where I have lived ever since. I met my partner Sarah in 1990
who fortunately shares my interest in photography.
Work
means that it's not possible to devote as much time to picture taking
as we would like, but most of our holiday time is geared around travel
and photography. Each year we plan to have one main holiday of two or
three weeks, plus two city breaks of four or five days. So far we have
visited Madagascar, Namibia, Tunisia, Greece, Turkey, Belgium, France,
Spain, Malta, Cyprus, Ireland, Italy, Estonia, Czech Republic, Poland,
Galapagos, Ecuador, USA, Cuba, New Zealand, Japan and the Seychelles.
A trip to the Falklands is planned for November 2005. A safari to Tanzania
or Botswana and a cruise to Anarctica are at the top of a very long
wish list of other trips we hope to make.
My
main camera gear currently consists of Canon EOS1 and EOS3 cameras,
plus 17-40, 24-70, 70-200, 100-400 and 500mm Canon lenses. My favourite
films are Velvia for its rich, saturated colours and Kodak HIE Infrared
film, for its ability to add atmosphere to black and white landscapes.
Slides and negatives are scanned into my PC using a Nikon 5000 film
scanner.
