Knees Up Cecil Sharp Ceilidhs

What are they?

The Knees Up Cecil Sharp ceilidhs provide interesting and energetic evenings of folk dancing. They present a mixture of established and up-and-coming bands mostly playing in the English ceilidh style. A favourite is The Committee Band which was founded to play for these dances. We aim to cater for both experienced dancers and for newcomers; a caller explains each dance and dancers walk it through beforehand.

Practical details

Knees Ups take place monthly on Friday evenings (normally the third Friday of the month) -- but note that in Autumn 2009, for reasons beyond our control, there is only one ceilidh -- on the 20th November). The programme gives details of all the forthcoming ceilidhs.

Each dance begins at 8pm and admission is £8.00 per person (£6.00 concessions). The venue is:

Cecil Sharp House,
2 Regents Park Road,
London,
NW1 7AY

my Cecil Sharp House page describes how to get there. There is a licensed bar serving Greene King real ales. Food is not available (sorry), but there are plenty of eating places 3 minutes' walk away in Parkway, and elsewhere in Camden Town.

By popular demand, dances are now always in the Kennedy Hall -- the main upstairs hall.
