Rexhep QOSJA, BIOGRAPHY

Rexhep Qosja (b. 1936) is one of the most eminent and prolific literary critics in the Balkans, academician, former director of the Albanological Institute in Prishtina and author of anthologies and numerous scholarly monographs, including a three-volume history of Albanian literature in the romantic period. He is also the author of one of the most widely admired and translated novels of recent years, Vdekja më vjen prej syve të tillë, Prishtina 1974 (Death comes from such eyes). It is a work of original narrative technique and composition, ‘thirteen tales which might constitute a novel.’ The protagonist of the novel, Xhezairi i Gjikës, is a professional writer caught up in a frightening web of political intrigue, secret police, interrogation and torture, a world full of very definite political allusions to the difficult situation faced by Albanian intellectuals in Kosova. Qosja has remained active as a writer in the struggle for freedom in Kosova. Among his many monographs on the national question is: Çështja shqiptare - historia dhe politika, Prishtina 1994 (The Albanian question - history and politics).

Rexhep Qosja ka lindur më 1936 në Vuthaj te Kelmendit, Malit i Zi. Shkollën fillore e përfundoi në fshatine lindjes, tetëvjeçaren e mbaroi në Guci. Shkollën normale e mbaroi në Prishtinë. Më 1964 u diplomua në degën Gjuhë-letërsi të Universitetit të Prishtinës. Studimet pasuniversitare i kreu në Universitetin e Beogradit, Beograd ku në vitin 1971 mori titullin "Doktor i shkencave filologjike" me temën "Asdreni-jeta dhe veprat". Ishte punonjës shkencor në Institutin Albanologjik të Universitetit të Prishtinës dhe drejtor i këtij Instituti prej vitit 1972 deri më 1981.

Që në fillimet e veta, duke folur për rolin e kritikës dhe modernitetit, Rexhep Qosja pohoi se "realizmi socialist nuk është as realizëm, sepse është romantizëm". Duke mbrojtur dhe ushtruar një kritikë të tillë dhe duke hequr dorë nga glorifikimi i një orientimi të vetëm u siguroi studimeve të veta dimensione të reja që i përkasin të gjitha kohërave.

Botimi i librit nga Ismail Kadare në vitin 2006 "Identiteti europian i shqiptarëve - sprovë"1 ishte një nismatorë i një polemnike në mes të Qosjes dhe Kadares. Kështu ndërsa Kadare e vlerëson identitin shqiptar si perendimor, Qosja në librin e tij të quajtur "Realiteti i shpërfillur"2, e vlerëson atë si një përzierje të identitetit perendimor dhe lindor, të krishterë dhe mysliman.
