The Council
of Northern Caving Clubs in 1989 in conjunction with DMM the anchor
manufacturer, and Hilti the resin manufacturer originally researched
the information contained in this document. Permanent fixed anchors
continue to be researched and tested by the Council of Northern
Caving Clubs through the C.N.C.C. Technical Group.
The basic
method of installation has not changed. But, over the years, as
more has been learnt about how anchors perform in both normal and
abnormal use, it has been necessary to make small, but important
changes to the method of installation.
As these
changes are made an updated copy of the installation guide lines,
training, testing and documentation will be sent to all the regional
anchor re-placement co-ordinators, it is their responsibility to
inform ALL the trained installers within their area of the current
amendments.
In 1994
the National Caving Association initiated the N.C.A. anchor re-placement
program and subsequently adopted all the installation and recording
procedures that the Council of Northern Caving Clubs had initiated.
Anchor re-placement is now co-ordinated on a national basis, but
run through the designated person responsible for anchor replacement
in each region.
If you
feel that you would like to be trained, or require further training,
ask your designated regional anchor replacement co-ordinator, or
contact Les Sykes
C.N.C.C. secretary or Glenn
Jones who will arrange for an in-depth training session in the
Yorkshire Dales.
The caves
that have been re-bolted, have been re-bolted by the members of
the caving clubs and the C.N.C.C. Technical Group. These cavers
have been willing to give up their own caving time, to benefit other
cavers. The C.N.C.C. would like to thank all the cavers who have
undertaken the anchor re-placement work.
The finance
for the next phase of anchor re-placement will be part funded from
the sales of the C.N.C.C. Technical Group rigging guide and the rigging
cards, and part funded by the Council of Northern Caving Clubs.
