At this point the river and canal run adjacent to each other, a favourite spot for picnics and office workers at lunchtime.
This crane & treadmill
was used to unload barges in the late 17th and the 18th centuries. It was worked by men walking inside the 18 foot wheel, housed inside the shed. It stands close to Guilford Town Bridge.
