A COLLECTION OF BORDERS DEVISED FROM FRACTALS CREATED BY JILL LAWSON WITH THE HELP OF WINFRACT Or go straight to Flower Borders or Seamless Backgrounds Backgrounds are an important part of any web site, but quite often a strong all-over pattern detracts from the text, and I'm sure you will have found some pages that are almost impossible to read. One solution is to use a plain colour, or a very simple texture, for the main area and to introduce pattern in a border down the left-hand side. Here I have used fractals as a basis for my borders - some just as they were drawn with Winfract, while others have been enhanced with Corel Photo-Paint. I have divided the borders into three sections - those that come with a preferred background colour or pattern (in which case that colour/pattern will be saved with the border design); those where I leave the choice of background colour to the user (in which case the background in the saved file is transparent); and lastly a Miscellaneous section where, using fractals as a starting point, I have experimented with new ideas (some of which have worked quite well) using many of the 'effects' features in Corel Photo-Paint. In this section TB alongside a design will tell you that the background is transparent, otherwise the borders and backgrounds are combined (CB). All my borders are in GIF or JPG format, with a width of 1024 pixels - if anyone out there needs them to be wider (or less wide) than that please feel free to cut, and paste in (or cut out) an extra section of background. I would however ask that you do not change the actual border design in any way.
ALL THESE BORDERS ARE FREE
FOR ANYONE TO USE, BUT I WOULD APPRECIATE AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND A LINK TO
MY SITE.
Please save your chosen background to your own computer. DO NOT link to it on this site since filenames and designs may, and almost certainly will, change from time to time. Because these designs are the result of a considerable amount of work on my part they should not feature in any other collection unless credit is given to me as their creator.
NEED HELP IN USING BORDER BACKGROUNDS?
If you're only here for a little while, have
a look at the Miscellaneous section first!
and
now
However, if you really do want something all over your screen, here are a hundred or so designs for you to choose from, all but a few of which began life as fractals. Most should be viewer-friendly, although I couldn't resist including a small number that will obviously not be suitable for use with small text.
