The current price of Muse is:
TWENTY (20) pounds sterling or equivalent (about 35 US dollars). To install Muse on an extra computer costs TEN (10) pounds for each extra computer on that site.

Upgrades for Muse

Upgrading to a newer version of Muse on a computer which already has a registered copy of Muse on it is free. The newer versin recognises that Muse is already registered on that computer, regards itself as already registered and makes no fuss.

To move Muse to a new computer requires payment for a new licence, but this can be done at the reduced rate of 10 (TEN) pounds (half price). (Note, paying by foreign, that is non-UK cheque is not attractive for this as the bank will get about as much as I will).

How to pay

You can
Pay by credit card or
Pay by UK cheque or
Pay by Eurocheque or
Pay by other (but English language) cheque or
Pay by International Money Order
or else we have to use some initiative! You can
Send it by e-mail or
Send it by fax or
Send it by post

If you have problems...

Please read the licence before sending any money

Paying by credit card

I can only accept Visa, Delta, Eurocard or Mastercard (NOT AMEX). If you are outside the UK, credit card is probably the best way to pay.

Standard banking measures to reduce fraud require that: You send me the name on the card and the street address for the card. I can e-mail you the password to save time, but you must send me your street address (i.e. where the bank sends the bill).

Banks advise you not to send credit card numbers by internet mail. Fax is OK.
Fax number is UK 02380 576211, from outside the UK +44 2380 576211 where "+" is your international prefix. e.g.
from USA 011 44 2380 576211,
from Germany 00 44 1703 576211. Of course you can mail (air mail) me the number in a letter if you prefer. So you need

  1. The eight character identifier (Muse file menu; Register; Show registration id)
  2. The credit card number
  3. The name on the card exactly as printed.
  4. The expiry date
  5. The address for the card - i.e. your street address
Please ensure you send all those details to
Musements
1 Wordsworth Road
Southampton
SO15 5LX
United Kingdom
or to
musements@tcp.co.uk
or fax to
(+44) 2380 576211
e.g. from USA 011 44 2380 576211

I will bill you the current sterling price which will turn up on your account as the corresponding sum in your currency. Credit card exchange rates are usually good. I will send the password before billing you.

Paying by cheque on UK bank

Please make the cheque out payable to Musements. The price is 20 pounds. If you have more than one computer then an extra 10 pounds for each extra computer.
Send
  1. The eight character identifier (Muse file menu; Register; Show registration id)
  2. The cheque
  3. The address for the password to be sent to (this can be an e-mail address)

Paying by Eurocheque

Please make the cheque out payable in pounds sterling for the current UK price (20 pounds). If you have more than one computer then an extra 10 pounds for each extra computer. Alas the UK is not in the Euro zone. Make it payable to Musements. Send
  1. The eight character identifier (Muse file menu; Register; Show registration id)
  2. The cheque
  3. The address for the password to be sent to (this can be an e-mail address if you like).

Paying by cheque on foreign (non-UK) but English language bank

If the cheque is not written in English, then please try another method of payment. If the cheque is in English, but not drawn on a UK bank or not in sterling then my bank charges me about 5 pounds to clear it as a foreign cheque. So you have to pay me 25 pounds so that I can receive 20. The difficulty of clearing non-English language cheques just makes it not worth while.

If you are in America the check price is 40 US dollars.
If you are in Canada, the check price is 60 Canadian dollars.
If you are in Australia the cheque price is 65 Australian dollars.
If you are in New Zealand the cheque price is 80 New Zealand dollars.

If you have more than one computer then the price is an extra 10 pounds for each extra computer. If this is done in the same payment, then add 15 US dollars, 20 Canadian dollars, 20 Australian Dollars or 30 New Zealand dollars for each extra computer. Elsewhere (more work for you) take the current UK price, add 5 pounds and convert it from UK pounds to your local currency at the current rate. You can find current exchange rates from newspapers or from some financial web sites (e.g. http://www.ft.com or http://pacific.commerce.ubc.ca/xr/today.html). Rates vary all the time, I'll accept it if your rate is plausible!

Send

  1. The eight character identifier (Muse file menu; Register; Show registration id)
  2. The cheque made out to Musements.
  3. The address for the password to be sent to (you can use an e-mail address)

Paying by international money order (IMO)

It should be for for the current UK price, which is 20 pounds (it will probably cost you more than that). If you have more than one computer then an extra 10 pounds for each extra computer. The IMO when it arrives has your name, but not much else. Send separately
  1. Your name (so I can match it up)
  2. The eight character identifier (Muse file menu; Register; Show registration id)
  3. The address for the password to be sent to (you can use an e-mail address)

Sending money by e-mail

Obviously this only works for credit cards. Banks recommend that you don't do this. Internet mail is not secure unless you encrypt the data. It's one of those things that is "probably OK", but sooner or later someone is going to get bitten. One of these days I'll get PGP sorted out and then...

Sending money by fax

Fax is as secure as a phone call (really the only danger is sending to a wrong number). The chance of a wrong number being a valid fax machine is small.

If you have windows 95 and a modem then you probably also have fax. You do

Start; Programs; Accessories; Fax; Compose new fax
and then follow your nose.
From the UK my fax number is 02380 576211
From the USA it is 011 44 2380 576211
From most places in Europe it is 00 44 2380 576211
From anywhere else it is [x] 44 2380 576211
where [x] is your international access code.
You have probably figured out that the number parses as
44 = United Kingdom
23 = Southampton
80576211 = me
This number does not ring aloud, any time in any time zone is OK - you won't wake the neighbours (or me!)

Sending money by post

Obviously you can send a cheque or card details by post. Air mail from the USA or Australia seems to usually take two or three working days. Within the EEC it is usually one or two. Surface mail from the USA is weeks. Sending cash by post is just fine if it arrives. If it doesn't, nobody would ever know who to blame, so I'd rather you didn't - but if all else fails then US dollar bills, UK pounds notes or Australian dollar notes are acceptable. The post sometimes does go astray.

If you have any problems

E-mail Musements on musements@tcp.co.uk

If you want to phone me, e-mail me first to agree on a time. Telephones are not time-zone friendly. The phone can wake the household in the middle of the night. (I do not object to phones in principle; it's just practicalities).
